U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer will visit the University at Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering on Monday to push for a $100 million federal grant to go to the school for solar electric manufacturing research.

The NanoCollege and Sematech, the computer chip research consortium, have created a solar manufacturing consortium and have applied for the grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The manufacture of solar cells is similar to the process used in computer chip manufacturing.
