UAlbany Announces New Nanomedicine Program

By: by YNN

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A first-of-its-kind nanomedicine program is coming to UAlbany.

The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering is partnering with SUNY Downstate Medical Center to launch the dual degree program that will provide training in nanoscale medical applications. Officials hope it will produce a new hybrid class of research physicians.

The program is designed for completion within seven years and students earn both an MD degree and a Ph. D.

"I think a platform like nanomedicine and a new generation of physicians, the technologies that will come out of this partnership, stand to improve the lives of anyone who would ever have an illness or an injury," said program director Dr. Sara Brenner.

According to studies, the U.S. market for nanotechnology medical products is projected to increase to $53 billion by the end of the year.
