College Of Nano Science A True Gem For Region

By: by Dorothy S. Cucinelli, Times Union

As we all know, Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering has distinguished itself as the high-end jewel of the Capital Region and New York state.

Recently, the college also distinguished itself as a true member of the community. Even though the college is in the middle of an incredibly busy time of construction, development and publicity, it found time and space to host an event for our nonprofit agency.

Our organization, called Clear View Center, is a mental health agency providing treatment, medications and many other services to adults in Albany County. Recently, we held our annual staff planning day -- an important strategizing and problem solving retreat -- at the Nanotechnology Center, and our group of 50 employees was given the opportunity to use the conference facilities, with the college covering the costs.

I would like to thank the staff of the Nanotechnology Center, particularly Alain Kaloyeros, vice president and chief administrative officer, for their help and generosity.

While the planning session was productive and refreshing, the true highlight of our day was the tour of the facility. The "wow" factor is truly impressive; it's hard to believe that such an important piece of the world's future in technology is right in our own backyard.
