Summer PV Training Program

The College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering, with partners Northeast Advanced Technological Education Center (NEATEC), Hudson Valley Community College, the Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium and the Rochester Institute of Technology, would like to offer professors an opportunity to learn how to teach an in-depth, semester long education, demonstration, and training program for collegiate students in photovoltaics (PV).

The purpose of this program is to provide with simple terms and hands-on experiments a comprehensive education and training on the basic concepts and scientific principles of the technology of photovoltaic devices, panels, and systems.

Tentative Agenda:

  • Monday August 5, 2013 Introduction and Overview of PV & Solar Markets and Economics
  • Tuesday August 6, 2013 Light and Solar Radiation, Silicon Solar Cells and Thin Film Solar Cells 
  • Wednesday August 7, 2013 Lab Tools and Demo, Transparent Conducting Oxides for Solar Cells and Tours 
  • Thursday August 8, 2013 Case Study , Development and Arrays & Solar Cell Devices, PV Material Characterization and PV Systems: Data Monitoring
  • Friday August 9, 2013 Lab Tools and Demo and Demonstration of PV Experiments
